Alan Inzer with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office observed a burglary in progress and attempted to intervene. While in foot pursuit, Sgt. Inzer paid the ultimate price when he was shot and killed while trying to protect the citizens of Calcasieu Parish. In his memory, the Inzer family started a scholarship fund at McNeese State University in the Wildlife Management field of study. In addition to law enforcement, Alan was passionate about the outdoors and volunteered his time to help with various conservation projects. On April 21, 2012, the 2nd Annual Alan Inzer Memorial Scholarship Fund 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Run will be held at the Enos Derbonne Multi Sports Complex located at 7903 Lake Street in Lake Charles. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the race will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. This is a non-profit organization with all proceeds benefiting the Alan Inzer Scholarship Fund at the McNeese Foundation. This 5K/Fun Run is a great way to get your family and/or friends involved in a fun and healthy event!
