On July 15, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were dispatched to a local business in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival, detectives spoke with the victim who advised after shopping at the local business on July 14, he mistakenly left his wallet, which contained a credit card, in the shopping cart he was using. After realizing his wallet was missing, the victim contacted his bank and discovered unauthorized charges were made with the stolen credit card.
During the investigation, detectives obtained surveillance video from the business which captured store employee Shanrekka Edwards, 19, 2117 17thStreet, Lake Charles, looking through the victim’s wallet after removing it from the shopping cart.
The investigation revealed Edwards gave the stolen wallet to acquaintance Johnnric L. Gillie, 21, 118 S. Lyons Street, Lake Charles, who then used the stolen credit card to make unauthorized purchases.
Edwards was charged with theft under $500 and released on a misdemeanor summons. Gillie was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft under $500; and unauthorized use of an access card and released on a $1,000 bond set by Judge Clayton Davis.
