Regional Law Enforcement Academy

It is the function of the Calcasieu Parish Regional Law Enforcement Academy is to coordinate and plan law-enforcement Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) approved training programs for recruits in the five parish region (Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis) as well as in-service training for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.  It is our mission to provide the highest quality law enforcement training to prepare officers to not only obtain certification from the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council but to service their respective communities in a professional and ethical manner.

Cadets who attend the academy will complete more than 500 hours of training and testing mandated by P.O.S.T.  Law enforcement training can, at times, be physically demanding; therefore, physical fitness evaluations are conducted prior to admission to the academy to ensure the continued health and safety of all cadets.  Upon the successful completion of all academy training and passing the Louisiana P.O.S.T. examination, cadets return to their respective departments as fully certified police officers by the State of Louisiana.

In order to attend the training academy, cadets must be fully commissioned police officers, reserve officers, or otherwise employed with full law enforcement authority by a recognized law enforcement agency in good standing with P.O.S.T.

To apply to attend the training academy, cadets must submit a Full Basic Registration Form signed by their agency head, an Informed Consent Form, and a Full Basic Physical Examination Form.  (Links to those forms are provided below.)

The Academy is located at 3958 Mallard Cove Drive in Lake Charles.
